The Profit - Baby Bump (Kool Kids) Update

Tonight on The Profit, Marcus Lemonis is in New Orleans, Louisiana hoping to make a deal with Baby Bump. Baby Bump is a maternity and children's clothing business owned by Robbie and Julie Allen.  The store has been open for 10 years and Robbie and Julie aren't sure of their roles and do not know their numbers.  Also Robbie was recently treated for cancer which put even more stress on their business and marriage.


Let's take a look at some information related to Baby Bump as well as what kind of deal was made on the show.




News and Links Related To The Company:

• Here is the Baby Bump Maternity Facebook page which posts frequently and their website.
• Their website has a picture that says, "We will be closed starting Monday 4/30/18 for a few weeks. Stay tuned for our Grand Opening Date!!! We have a really cool concept for kids of all ages! Follow our progress on Instagram @babybumpmaternity."
• That Instagram page has since been taken down, but you will see why.
• There are two locations of Baby Bump, one in New Orleans and one in Baton Rouge.
• Here are the Yelp reviews for Baby Bump which are mostly positive, but there are only 12 reviews. (Link)
• During the filming of the episode, Baby Bump changed their concept and is now Kool Kids.

The Deal From The Episode Plus Post-Show Updates (this will be updated continually):

• The Deal - $100,000 for 50% of the business.  The cash will go into the business and they will use Marcus's resources to grow the business.
• Baby Bump/Kool Kids stopped selling maternity clothing due to Marcus's recommendation and now focuses on children's clothing. (Link)
• The New Orleans Kool Kids store opened on June 13th, 2018. (Link)
• On July 3rd, 2018 a Jacksonville, FL Shop Marcus location opened with Kool Kids inside of it. (Link)
• That location was a Denim & Soul (season 3) shop, which closed Memorial Day weekend to be converted to a Shop Marcus location. (Link)
• The Baby Bump Baton Rouge location turned into a Shop Marcus store with Kool Kids inside of it and this opened on July 24th, 2018. (Link)
• It looks like Sweet Pete's (season 2) makes candy for the store with the Kool Kids branding. (Link)
• They do not own the URL koolkids.com.
• The Facebook page of Baby Bump links to a staykool.com website, but it doesn't appear that is active yet.
• The actual website for Kool Kids is https://shopthekoolkids.com/.
• UPDATE 4/2019 - Somebody asked Marcus Lemonis for an update on Kool Kids and he responded, "The previous partners have done some shady things. Full inside look coming with timelines and police reports." (Link)
